St Luke's Church

St Luke's church began on 11th July 1874 when the foundation of the church was laid, it was only in 1922 that the Parish of St Luke Orrell was created.

The new church foundation was laid on 6th November 1926 in Lodge road and on 24th September 1927 was consecrated as the new church of Orrell. The church was designed by architects Austin and Paley, who designed many churches including St Matthew's Highfield and St Stephen's. The style is perpendicular Gothic. During the process the Revd. Arthur Smart (the first vicar of the parish) insisted on a large parking area, prophesying the day when people would drive rather than walk to church.

We are grateful for all those across the decades who have initiated, maintained and sustained St Luke's in its Christian witness to the community of Orrell. That this church has been able to gather the people of Orrell to regularly worship God and follow Jesus Christ in their daily lives.
